Private Therapist in Essex
Less talking for the sake of it. More doing.
Giving high-achieving professionals the tools they need to take back control.

Evidence-based therapy for high-performing people
Many of the clients I see are doing well on paper. Nice house, decent job, beautiful family – everything they dreamed of – yet they still feel crap at the end of the day. They want more from the life they’ve worked hard to build, and usually they’re ready for something more solution-focused than just talking about it.
My approach uses CBT, EMDR, and Compassion Focused Therapy to give clients a clear lens on the problem, a practical playbook for change, and a better idea of what to do next.
A private CBT & EMDR therapist, based in Essex
I’m a BABCP-accredited psychotherapist and trained EMDR practitioner with more than 10 years’ experience across NHS, private, academic, and high-pressure clinical settings, including Broadmoor Hospital. I also have a lived understanding of high-performance environments, which is one reason I work well with high-achieving professionals and business owners.
I like to think of my approach as the antidote to Americanised, airy-fairy therapy. It’s more engineering than incense: quantify what we can, make things explicit, understand the variables, and change the response. That does not mean therapy has to feel heavy and serious. We can talk about difficult things, have a laugh when life is being ridiculous, and still stay focused on the work.
Sessions are available online or by home visit where appropriate, offering a discreet, premium way to access therapy around a demanding schedule.
Proven therapy frameworks I specialise in
Therapy should give you a way to understand what is happening and what to do next. These are the main evidence-based approaches I use to get us there.
CBT Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy helps us understand how your thoughts, behaviours, and physical responses keep a problem going. Once the pattern is clear, we can change how you respond.
EMDR Therapy
Some experiences keep turning up in your body, mood or reactions long after the event has passed. EMDR therapy helps you to reprocess them so they have less of an impact on you now.
Compassion-Focused Therapy
Compassion-Focused Therapy is helpful when self-criticism, guilt, or shame keep running the show. We work on building a more balanced, less punishing way to relate to yourself.
What changed for them

Can’t recommend highly enough!!!
Ryan was an exceptional trauma-informed CBT therapist and I can’t recommend him highly enough. From the very first session, he immediately made me feel relaxed, safe, and comfortable enough to open up about what was going on. He explained things in a way that was easy to understand and always made the techniques feel relevant and personal to my situation.
My time working with Ryan was very helpful and productive. I’ve had several counsellors over the years, and elements of Ryan’s approach were quite different and very suited to me. His manner is relaxed and empathetic. Whilst the time was taken to aid my understanding of myself, he also provided real tools and tactics that enabled me to put the changes I wanted to make into practice. This has often been the gap in the past that prevented me from making meaningful change. I’m doing well now, but wouldn’t hesitate to go back to Ryan, for a top up, or to work through another issue on the future. Thank you, Ryan.
Life Changing.
Ryan has been incredible throughout. His pragmatic approach and tools have helped me overcome a number of challenges which have built up over time.
His clear communication style and clarity ensured I was able to understand everything in the first instance and the awareness I developed with his help has significantly improved my view on many things and helped me be more accepting in certain situations which would have previously snow balled and got out of control.
Without question or doubt, I’d highly recommend Ryan. Thank you Ryan.
I couldn’t recommend Ryan more.
Ryan is a highly trained therapist, who you feel at ease with after just your first meeting. He speaks to you like you’re a real person and creates an environment that you feel that you can open up in. Ryan has real life applicable techniques which are easy to integrate into your day to day life. He genuinely has changed my life and way of thinking.
I have tried NHS and a few other therapy services. Slan Therapy was the one that stuck. Ryan is patient and lets you go at your own pace whilst also making sure you are progressing. He made me feel so at ease and I looked forward to the sessions instead of dreading them (like all the ones before). My life is now brighter since working with him. 100% recommend, his Irish self won’t let you down!
Ryan is a phenomenal practitioner of pyschotherapy and CBT. I started working with him on a personal recommendation and within a few sessions he had helped me not only understand (for the first time) what was going on for me, but also started equipping me with practical work that made a real difference.

How we’ll work together
I offer discreet therapy: online nationwide, or in-person home appointments across London and Essex.
Book a Discovery Call
We start with a conversation about what has brought you here, what you want to change, and whether I’m the right therapist to help you do that.
Get Into Sessions
This is where we get into the mechanics: thoughts, behaviours, memories, and patterns that aren’t helping you. Then we build different responses.
Need Me Less
The point is not to keep you in therapy forever. Over time, you’ll feel more confident applying the tools you’ve learned without my help.
How much does therapy cost?
Online individual therapy sessions cost £99 per session.
Home-visit therapy is priced depending on your location. I’ll always explain the cost clearly before anything is booked.
What types of therapy do you offer?
I mainly offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).
I may also draw on other therapy approaches where they fit, but I won’t throw techniques at you for the sake of sounding clever. We’ll use what makes sense for the problem in front of us.
Do you accept insurance?
I am recognised by a number of major health insurance providers.
It’s best to contact your insurer first to check what your policy covers, whether you need pre-authorisation, and what details they need from me before we start.
Can I cancel or reschedule my appointment?
Life happens and sometimes it gets in the way of appointments. If you provide 48 hours’ notice before the appointment I’ll happily cancel or reschedule.
You’ll still be charged for the appointment if you cancel or reschedule within 48 hours as these empty slots are difficult for us to re-book at short notice.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Yes. What you talk about in therapy stays confidential.
I follow strict ethical and legal guidelines as a BABCP-accredited psychotherapist and registered mental health nurse. The only exceptions are rare situations where there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else.
Where do therapy sessions take place?
I offer online therapy and home visits where appropriate.
Online sessions take place through a secure platform. Home visits can be arranged depending on your location, clinical needs and whether it makes sense for the work we’re doing.
